Ashley & Matthew’s Wedding
Ashley & Matthew’s Wedding | A Celebration of Love, Family & New Beginnings
Every wedding celebrates the beginning of a marriage, but for **Ashley and Matthew**, their wedding day was also about something even bigger—the joining of a family.
Surrounded by the people closest to them, Ashley and Matthew exchanged heartfelt personal vows, honored loved ones who could not be there, and celebrated the life they had already begun building together.
Their ceremony was filled with laughter, emotion, meaningful promises, and one especially touching moment that made it clear this day wasn’t only about becoming husband and wife.
It was about officially becoming a family.
A Love Story That Started Online
Like plenty of modern romances, Ashley and Matthew’s story started on the internet.
They found one another the day after Valentine’s Day in **2023**. After a month filled with late-night conversations and countless text messages, they finally went on their first date.
The connection was immediate.
Matthew even remembered that during their first date downtown, a complete stranger stopped and offered to take their picture because the two of them already looked so in love.
As their relationship grew, Ashley and Matthew discovered something else remarkable: their lives had apparently been crossing paths for years before they ever officially met.
They had attended some of the same **Virginia Tech games** and even the same **Blue Ridge Music Festival**, unknowingly sharing some of the same places and experiences.
It was almost as though their paths had been running parallel for years, simply waiting for the right moment to finally come together.
Remembering Loved Ones
The ceremony began with a meaningful remembrance of family members and friends who were no longer physically present.
Matthew’s father was especially remembered, with the acknowledgment that his love and influence remained an important part of the day.
It was a quiet reminder that weddings don’t only celebrate the people standing with us in the moment. They also carry the memories and influence of those who helped shape our lives along the way.
## Personal Vows Straight From the Heart
Ashley and Matthew wrote their own vows, giving everyone an even deeper glimpse into their relationship.
Matthew spoke about how meeting Ashley completely changed his understanding of love.
He described her as his partner, teammate, his calm during difficult moments, the heart of their home, and an incredible mother figure to his daughter, Kennedy.
Perhaps one of the sweetest parts of his vows came when Matthew said that he and Kennedy had “hit the jackpot” when Ashley came into their lives.
He spoke about the family they had already created and promised to continue showing up, chasing their dreams together, and choosing Ashley every day.
He ended his vows with a simple but personal message:
**1436 — I love you always.**
Ashley reflected on their own parallel journeys and how close they had unknowingly been to one another throughout the years.
She spoke about the immediate connection she felt when their eyes met on their first date and how Matthew made her feel safe enough to completely be herself.
Their relationship had already carried them through difficult experiences, including the loss of their dog Titan and the loss of family members.
Through those moments, they learned not only how to love each other during the good times, but how to hold one another up when life became difficult.
Ashley promised to continue choosing Matthew again and again, to support him, celebrate him, build a joyful home together, and keep their family surrounded by love and grace.
A Special Promise to Kennedy
Then came one of the most touching moments of the entire ceremony.
Before the ring exchange, Ashley invited Matthew’s daughter, **Kennedy**, to join them.
Ashley explained that marrying Matthew also meant saying yes to Kennedy and to the family the three of them had already created.
She spoke directly to Kennedy about how much happiness she had brought into her life and how proud she was to be part of her world.
Ashley then made promises specifically to her.
She promised to love and care for Kennedy, encourage her, listen to her, guide her through difficult moments, and support the relationships she shares with both of her parents.
Most importantly, Ashley promised to show up for Kennedy not simply as a “bonus mom,” but as someone who would love her as her own.
Ashley then presented Kennedy with a necklace representing the bond they were making official that day.
It was emotional, deeply personal—and even included a little laughter when the necklace temporarily became tangled.
Those unscripted little moments are exactly what make wedding days so memorable.
Rings, Promises and a New Chapter
Ashley and Matthew then exchanged wedding rings and traditional promises to love, cherish, respect, support, and remain beside one another through life’s successes and failures.
Their officiant encouraged them to take a quiet moment before the ceremony ended—to simply look at one another, take everything in, and consciously create a memory of where they were and what they were feeling.
It was a wonderful idea.
Wedding days move incredibly fast, and sometimes a quiet moment between two people becomes one of the most meaningful memories of the entire celebration.
With their hands joined, Ashley and Matthew were reminded that those same hands would build their future, comfort one another through difficult times, celebrate the joyful ones, and support each other through every chapter still to come.
Then came the words everyone had been waiting for.
Ashley and Matthew were officially pronounced **husband and wife**.
And with their first kiss as a married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Compton began the next chapter of their story together.
More Than a Wedding Day
One of the things I love about wedding videography is that every couple gives me a completely different story to preserve.
Ashley and Matthew’s ceremony wasn’t simply about two people getting married.
It was about two people who unexpectedly found one another, discovered that their lives had been crossing paths for years, supported each other through difficult times, and built a family together.
And it was about a little girl named Kennedy becoming an official part of the promises made that day.
Those are the moments worth preserving.
Years from now, Ashley, Matthew, and Kennedy won’t have to rely only on photographs or memories of what was said. They’ll be able to hear those voices again, watch those expressions, relive the laughter, and return to the moment their family officially began a brand-new chapter.
Congratulations, Ashley and Matthew!
